Work ate my Half Marathon

On Friday afternoon it was sprung on me that I would in fact have to be in Winnipeg, MB on Sunday evening for 10 nights / 11 days to train one of our larger clients. This is not my project, but the project manager assigned to it is no longer able to complete my training. I had a melt down. I get that they need someone there and that I am the best option, but not being able to do my Half was devestating. I have been training for this for months. Work will reimburse my race fee, but it will be my first DNF/DNS. I know there will be other races, but more of me is wrapped up in my running persona than I previously realized.

That was then, this is now. I'm in Winnipeg. I am still upset that I cannot do the Half, but understand that this was the best decision for my career. Can anyone suggest another spring/summer Half on the West Coast?

I ran today after being unable to run on Monday and completed the route below. It is only 4.5K but considering I am working 11hrs or more per day I am happy to get out the door at all. I am going to check out the local Running Room for the Community Run on Sunday morning. I am also hoping to get to hot yoga, but that is up for debate as the work days get longer.

Good luck finding a half marathon! I love to run myself and can sympathize with how you feel when you're unable to run a race you've been looking foward to running. On the other hand, you are an asset to your company and they no doubt appreciate your sacrifice. :)

You're lucky that you've never had to take a DNF. I've had to take 2 due to injury, no fun.

Hey, there are worse ways to DNF. I had my first DNF last fall. I went into cardiac arrest near the end of the race. Fortunately for me, there was a cardiac nurse right behind me in the race.
