Restrictive Eating

I'm struggling. I haven't struggled with this in a year or more, so it's particularly frustrating. They think I have a gluten-sensitivity or Celiac Disease (waiting on testing). This means mandatory food restrictions.

Food restrictions are a tactic I used years ago to drop weight in a disordered way. Being encouraged to add restrictions to whole food groups is a challenge for me. I find myself restricting wheat, barley, and rye (as per the medical recommendations), but also other things like rice and couscous (because I don't really like them). I've taken out the entire grain category. Some days I eat the calories of a normal person 1200-1500, but other days I can't figure out what's "safe" and available to eat so I clock in around 400-500 calories. This should feel more worrisome, but as I've been here before it doesn't. I get hungry, but it's not unmanageable.

I don't like the gluten-free alternatives. They taste weird and they are all very processed. It feels like replacing one bad option with another.

It sounds very similar to eating Paleo. Try looking over Robb Wolfe, he has a couple books & website. It might help clear up some stuff regarding your diagnosis.

Also regarding the food stuff, check out "Everyday Paleo". The woman who has a cookbook with the same title throws recipes up among other stuff, her name is Sarah Fragosa.

And lastly The Daily Apple. There is a whole bunch of people who've adapted this way of eating. So much out there about it! Good luck!

Anonymous - thank you very much for the information. I will look into it for sure. It's been a HUGE adjustment over the last 2 months.
