We did it around this time last year and it took us approximately 90mins. We made a goal to finish in 70mins this time around. Remarkably we succeeded! The hike is tough, sweaty, and does not have a lot of great views along the hike to the top. It's one foot in front of the other while keeping ones eyes open for the 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 markers. <div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm0b7UqSg17GpIzzxaQmcf-xeZaywF9eKaN8ImHSjblgGUOB9ZblyRFTzkU59Dq5NQvyi2BtMiqeNGdtYU4jIt4hVjCSAXDzM67nS0ueBrrik6pUVs8n3fkYGwNFsm6ZEto7eEkkNx459F/s640/blogger-image--431554155.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm0b7UqSg17GpIzzxaQmcf-xeZaywF9eKaN8ImHSjblgGUOB9ZblyRFTzkU59Dq5NQvyi2BtMiqeNGdtYU4jIt4hVjCSAXDzM67nS0ueBrrik6pUVs8n3fkYGwNFsm6ZEto7eEkkNx459F/s640/blogger-image--431554155.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWC8Iasa2RVN9kuDrex2tngP2kchxtAuKOsVolXdTIMCMHt-F-SqgviHBS61hquLZ0j4xoP9DTbtKLevY24GBr4VwaUEsnbh6ahyphenhyphen8xxfXrNcNW7QkwVmnpmeWLwsX4upPlDySmkdnyzicY/s640/blogger-image--1503984766.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWC8Iasa2RVN9kuDrex2tngP2kchxtAuKOsVolXdTIMCMHt-F-SqgviHBS61hquLZ0j4xoP9DTbtKLevY24GBr4VwaUEsnbh6ahyphenhyphen8xxfXrNcNW7QkwVmnpmeWLwsX4upPlDySmkdnyzicY/s640/blogger-image--1503984766.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Next time we will bring our ID to grab a Ceasar at the restaurant at the top of the Grind. </div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-27140919372236803732014-04-16T16:21:00.001-07:002014-04-16T16:21:47.157-07:00Run in Lane Cove outside Sydney, Australia<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Gorgeous. That's all I can say for my long run in Lane Cove National Park outside Sydney, Australia. I was stationed in Australia for 26 days for work and this was my first of 3 long runs. I got to venture past red and blue gym trees, wild birds, turkeys, and a few other runners and cyclists. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY2MxgUHyuyRSDtWuyOF8BaM668ZZenYUH95FTnJ6fipyPq8eWChTyNj3nyWBdrdt9haldz_pI_zFrqwjGtoiTanoGyVPLyw3TZi7D6D1UuciUxhW5kMKdX1TKNLdXIC-0rQqfuF9dqLie/s640/blogger-image--2052008598.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY2MxgUHyuyRSDtWuyOF8BaM668ZZenYUH95FTnJ6fipyPq8eWChTyNj3nyWBdrdt9haldz_pI_zFrqwjGtoiTanoGyVPLyw3TZi7D6D1UuciUxhW5kMKdX1TKNLdXIC-0rQqfuF9dqLie/s640/blogger-image--2052008598.jpg"></a></div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-71072570128416943522014-03-15T11:02:00.001-07:002014-03-15T11:02:48.877-07:001000 Miles logged in FitocracyFitocracy is an app that I used extensively 2yrs ago and then picked up again 12 wks ago. I feel like I eat relatively healthy and 3 meals plus 1 snack per day, but that's insufficient. I've been working religiously hard for more than 8 weeks and haven't lost a pound. I haven't gotten any smaller. I'm stronger, but those gains are less than they should be apparently. This makes me very depressed. I've been trying so hard. I eat clean and I work out a ton. I feel like I'm right back in my disordered eating nightmare. I need to get my head on straight and try to find the right balance. I'm terrified if I eat more I'll become a fat kid again, but my current plan obviously isn't doing my body much good either...SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-63457873305746422372014-03-02T18:49:00.001-08:002014-03-02T18:49:22.157-08:00It's Jelly Bean SeasonThis right here will be my clean eating ambitions undoing... <div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF6d7frmUzlxlYH2FTw03Ho6fk1zxEuLVr-HJyjzRH3A0jSiaoLPSMjU_3kHugdyH8LIOdpQzNNW3zJsJnae0QZGg5BSDEiFU13QXn_9_YZja1nRk2wuQ9Z8CskcCCYkq28yFcMPwqtT0z/s640/blogger-image-397054400.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF6d7frmUzlxlYH2FTw03Ho6fk1zxEuLVr-HJyjzRH3A0jSiaoLPSMjU_3kHugdyH8LIOdpQzNNW3zJsJnae0QZGg5BSDEiFU13QXn_9_YZja1nRk2wuQ9Z8CskcCCYkq28yFcMPwqtT0z/s640/blogger-image-397054400.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Very delicious and very limited time availability. </div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-18640896787265463402014-03-01T21:15:00.001-08:002014-03-01T21:15:09.930-08:00Hiking Mt. WorkToday the girls and I decided to shake things up and go for an intermediate hike. We didn't account for the amount of snow that would still be present from last weeks dump. I'll only be seeing my man for 28hrs over the third weekend of the month. What will I do with all that time? <div><br></div><div>Workout. Lift heavy. Eat clean. And focus on what makes me happy! </div><div><br></div><div>I'm planning on the following schedule and we'll see how it goes:</div><div><br></div><div>Weights: 3 days mid-week</div><div>Cardio Conditioning: Saturdays</div><div>Speedy Run: Friday eve</div><div>Long Run: Saturday or Sunday morn</div><div>Easy Runs: One lunchtime and one post-work</div><div>Barre: Tues eve (45mins)</div><div><br></div><div>I'd also like to get in a yoga session or some freestyle laps at the gym (45mins). Those last two may or may not be too ambitious, but I do have access to a free 60min yoga class on Sundays with good company. I am thinking either Thursday or Monday will be my rest day.</div><div><br></div><div>I'm cutting out candy for lent. Wish me luck. Misery loves company so a girlfriend is doing it with me. It was actually her objective and I'm acting as moral support.</div><div><br></div><div>I'm also going to cut down on the booze. I drank a glass or two most nights I was in Seattle and need to get back on track. I've budgeted myself 6 drinks per month which I have proven in the past works for me. </div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-20703281454915629922014-02-25T13:22:00.001-08:002014-02-25T13:22:13.317-08:00Princess Half MarathonI did not run the Princess Half Marathon in Disney World on Sunday (Feb. 23). Life got in the way. Hubby is moving to Los Angeles for a new job. My immigration paperwork is in progress, so I cannot go into the US easily like I could as a tourist. Am I disappointed? Yes. Am I devestated? No. It's just a race. We made the most of our weekend anyhow. My immigration status does put the Portland RnR Half and the Seattle RnR Half in jeopardy though as I cannot attend them unless the paperwork is processed by that time. *fingers crossed*SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-15197994585672639322014-02-05T19:03:00.001-08:002014-02-05T19:03:55.257-08:00LA BoundMy significant other has taken a job in LA starting March 3. This means once immigration completes I'll be headed to sunny California myself. I don't do a great job of running in the heat but I've been assured that people adapt with time. It throws off some of our running plans for this summer. He won't be flying up for a 10k and a 5k color run we had scheduled. I've got a male friend who will run them with me in his place at least. Wish me luck with all the changes underway as he sets off for West LA (Santa Monica).SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-39478112847460956942014-01-28T18:28:00.001-08:002014-01-28T18:28:41.936-08:00BarreToday my only workout is Barre. I feel like a bit of a slacker compared to other days. I ran yesterday and then did my back, bi, and intervals workout. Tomorrow morning will be chest and tri's with my trainer following by an evening run. I didn't realize that was what I was doing until it was over. The damage is only 250 calories - chex and almond milk. I'm embarassed. *sigh*SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-34723760737385332392014-01-22T13:59:00.001-08:002014-01-22T13:59:31.747-08:00Tinkerbell Half Marathon ReviewI am not someone that needs a lot of time to get ready in the morning. The race started at 5am, I budgeted 15mina from wake up to out the door and 45mins to get to the start line. I am very grateful I budgeted a lot of time to get to the start line. It was a straight shot from my hotel (1/2 mile) but 2 blocks from the start line the flaggers re-directed us down a side street past the start line and back up again. This made my walk double the original estimate in distance and time. My man was able to stick with me until we hit the corrals and then he headed back to the hotel to get some sleep. <div><br></div><div>I was fortunate in that I was seeded in corral A - do to my submitted previous finish time under 2:10. This corral was the least crowded by all accounts, got out first, was the closest to the fireworks, etc. I realized when I got here that is forgotten gum and solicited random strangers until I procured a piece. Sweet mint gum is my go to for calming pre-race nerves. </div><div><br></div><div>Start line view - </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYVdsuhlaImmL3N7z8Fg770slTXHtUahE8_EYHkc17zxX0-SHR7VaQSIV63VDXbvWN0rqgtH3dNTFBkC1KZweacSuDtmIbWqPuarv7Vtt2xaNLP9Tujtu-xzaS0KlWc2k2ZoqcsymOB-kM/s640/blogger-image-909001978.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYVdsuhlaImmL3N7z8Fg770slTXHtUahE8_EYHkc17zxX0-SHR7VaQSIV63VDXbvWN0rqgtH3dNTFBkC1KZweacSuDtmIbWqPuarv7Vtt2xaNLP9Tujtu-xzaS0KlWc2k2ZoqcsymOB-kM/s640/blogger-image-909001978.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I'm a sucker for fireworks and Disney did not disappoint. Fireworks were incorporated into the Star-Spangled Banner before the race began. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The race itself - </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The first 2 miles are outside the park or "behind the scenes" and therefore fairly boring. The next 5 miles are inside and behind the scenes across both California Adventure and Disneyland. These were my favorite miles! Being in corral A meant that there were less than 5 people in line when I approached any of the characters situated throughout the parks. I saw monsters inc, the incredibles, lost boys, captain jack sparrow, characters from brave, lightening McQueen and many more. I was disappointed that Goofy wasn't in the park or the princesses from Frozen, but you can't win them all. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">My favorite feature was the lit up water show from World of Color. My costume didn't arrive in time so I was a plain ol' runner for this one. I didn't anticipate the temperature and could have gotten away with a running skirt (less learned for WDW next month). </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The run through Anaheim was boring. The highlight being passing the Official Training Facility for the Mighty Ducks. Otherwise, it was your average medium sized city on an early Sunday morning. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">From what I could tell the aid stations were well staffed and have ample supplies. I only stopped at one to fill up my hand carried Fuel Belt bottle. The finish line was well organized and they even had a "Self Administered Aid Station" where I grabbed some body glide and blister bandages. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I'll get the man to send me the post-race pictures as he took them on his phone. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Final thoughts - I wouldn't run the Half again, the Anaheim portion was too boring. I would consider doing the 10k or the 5k that are almost exclusively in the parks. I understand these ones have more "slow down" areas but if I got seeded in an early corral again a lot of it could be avoided. </div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I finished in 2'13" even with stopping for pictures, only having 4hrs sleep the night before, and walking 12miles + both days before in the Parks. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Side note - turns out I had the flu too as I was violently sick about 7hrs after the race and for the next 2 days.</div><br></div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-25328820832321765452014-01-17T22:00:00.001-08:002014-01-17T22:00:47.852-08:00Packet Pickup at Tinkerbell HalfPacket pick up was smooth sailing this morning. The lines were short, but we also got there 10mins before it was scheduled to open. The expo was smaller than I thought it would be but they managed to part $45 from me anyhow. <div><br></div><div>The shirt, blue bag, bib, and mini luna bar were all part of the package. The Tinkerbell headband, Minnie ears, and vinylmation were all extra purchases. My man as always was wonderfully supportive and purchased these treats for me.</div><div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLFamHCWYtzZKJNSZiu3R-s0UWAtfsye078EayLoYCDqm4kQL6LZgL0ObYVKWdWslTpZH8BYPoSUIug7_IjH8gEvwk8f9WWdXNvyp-WRsfz5fTZKG-CP4VmwhTfvccKcZ6LberLJVa7-Yp/s640/blogger-image--1541233111.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLFamHCWYtzZKJNSZiu3R-s0UWAtfsye078EayLoYCDqm4kQL6LZgL0ObYVKWdWslTpZH8BYPoSUIug7_IjH8gEvwk8f9WWdXNvyp-WRsfz5fTZKG-CP4VmwhTfvccKcZ6LberLJVa7-Yp/s640/blogger-image--1541233111.jpg"></a></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We then put in a full 14hr day between the two parks. It included some 1145pm treadmill runs after a glass of wine. Or a couple miles after a softball game. It wasn't always pretty, but I did get it done. <div><br></div><div>I took many pictures of my runners to show the various terrain, company, etc. that helped me through the challenges. I am debating buying fairy wings in Disneyland and running in those. I found this great blog post about how to affix them to avoid wanting to tear them off during ones race, http://www.according-to-kelly.com/2012/01/how-to-wear-wings-while-running/. We'll see whether I go this route or just standard running attire.SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-62044867782424604942014-01-12T18:23:00.001-08:002014-01-12T18:23:32.183-08:00Leg ConditioningTomorrow I have to get myself up and to the gym before 6am. I've got legs to do and it's better to do them on Mon than Wed this week due to the Half I'm running on Sunday. The conditioning plan calls for a legs circuit and fortunately my Tabata Pro App (under $3) has custom timing option. <div><br></div><div>Welcome to my morning! </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxRk_n3_mqhjWrMQrPd5woIXdABpAiVQ6ETPywtK_hRSe4t0uGEia3YvikR_GqXZ39QiA6gRXPqTkMndeYhsXBBpsjadfzWoKgedeDpm7wr1bhBVYhE9Luq-0C8zaUysff1UTJ5jx3VUhW/s640/blogger-image-763564204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxRk_n3_mqhjWrMQrPd5woIXdABpAiVQ6ETPywtK_hRSe4t0uGEia3YvikR_GqXZ39QiA6gRXPqTkMndeYhsXBBpsjadfzWoKgedeDpm7wr1bhBVYhE9Luq-0C8zaUysff1UTJ5jx3VUhW/s640/blogger-image-763564204.jpg"></a></div><br></div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-43856660038320875692014-01-08T19:48:00.001-08:002014-01-08T19:48:06.114-08:00Happy Legs DayI have a lot of love for my trainer, Jill. She's hyperactive and chatty and knows her stuff and makes me laugh during brutal workouts. That being said, today I was on the verge of tears for my last leg exercise but determined to get through it. My mind was telling me I'd had enough but I know through running that often the body has more to give. I made it through the set and the second set. <div><br></div><div>Legs days are not always sunshine and rainbows, but today I was gifted with this:</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimW6qBDKvnRbdPSmmkcHhsNnmGNqYSnsZBkOr_gV8XK9rXrvPd6zDqz0XQ_Xj6a4p9nofoTs44k852VErsdwSKJvuSp4iphbFrsjqHLyR_3yzk2UbGbnCNGZMk5RFLBLw5W6xZqh6Qlf5a/s640/blogger-image-478380927.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimW6qBDKvnRbdPSmmkcHhsNnmGNqYSnsZBkOr_gV8XK9rXrvPd6zDqz0XQ_Xj6a4p9nofoTs44k852VErsdwSKJvuSp4iphbFrsjqHLyR_3yzk2UbGbnCNGZMk5RFLBLw5W6xZqh6Qlf5a/s640/blogger-image-478380927.jpg"></a></div><br></div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-58348961865177802262014-01-07T18:34:00.001-08:002014-01-07T18:34:41.687-08:00Back from HiatusIf anyone is still reading, I'm sorry for being missing in action for so long. Life has taken me on a ride over the past year or so and this fell by the wayside. I got married at a small ceremony in Seattle in August and we're planning a big white wedding for Oct 2014. <div><br></div><div>Here's how 2014 is shaping up -</div><div><br></div><div>- 6 Half Marathons on the docket, specifically:<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> RnR Seattle, RnR Portland, Tinkerbell, SeaWheeze, Princess, and RnR Las Vegas</span></div><div>- the TC10K</div><div>- Run or Dye 5K</div><div>- 5K Foam Fest</div><div>- 8K Road Race (morning of the wedding) </div><div>- 15K Hot Chocate Race</div><div><br></div><div>I am working with a personal trainer to try to find a better balance between my running and weight routines. I tend to forgo the weight room in favor of mileage and pay for that late in my races. I'll be hitting the weight room 3x per week for 60-90mins a session. </div><div><br></div><div>Cross training consists of 2/3 of the following each week: swimming laps, yoga, or bouldering. </div><div><br></div><div>It's a busy schedule, but I'm happy with it. We'll see how it goes over the long run. I expect I'll be earlier to bed going forward as my body will need extra rest and recovery. I'm trying to clean up my diet as paying for personal training and eating junk doesn't make sense. I want to be able to see how strong I am and my split times improve. </div><div><br></div><div>Wish me luck!</div><div><br></div><div>Picture from my 7K hike with the girls last Sunday morning before my 10K training run. </div><div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy8uYfNS0_RheJ6raXWcgLPMJJqaD8dnlm5VkrxSiMQ5dNqmgyha0zxgNupLEy3LWB7lOrqb8wVDmiSPkqYgKv5h7OAewTUgW3_qiwL4liQPawIqOsKUbBb27S_T6yKubowA0ED5q0tH92/s640/blogger-image--2048597487.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy8uYfNS0_RheJ6raXWcgLPMJJqaD8dnlm5VkrxSiMQ5dNqmgyha0zxgNupLEy3LWB7lOrqb8wVDmiSPkqYgKv5h7OAewTUgW3_qiwL4liQPawIqOsKUbBb27S_T6yKubowA0ED5q0tH92/s640/blogger-image--2048597487.jpg"></a></div></div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-6316665356244806652013-07-03T13:32:00.001-07:002013-07-03T13:32:03.615-07:00A Mile Everyday in JulyA running friend and I have committed to running a mile a day everyday in July. On some days I expect to only run a mile while on other days it will be training as usual in the 3-9 mile range. It's a way to stick to our training in the heat an make "me time" a priority. <div><br></div><div>Run 1 was a very hot day so I planned a route with a solid amount of shade: 2.5 miles. </div><div><br></div><div>Run 2 I waited for the sun to decline (815) and ran along the waterfront. The waterfront is always a few degrees cooler and had a good amount of wind: 2 miles in 17mins.</div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-88221579533201001452013-06-22T21:01:00.001-07:002013-06-28T17:22:00.073-07:00Seattle Rock n' Roll Half Marathon RecapAs always with the Rock n' Roll series the race expo was streamline, well organized, and had a ton of free samples. I was even able to get a box of Cola Chews for $16.00 including tax. These are my favorite running nutrition and hard to come by as they are a US only product. <div><br></div><div>Race Day I woke up at 545am and was at corral 23 by 635am (about a 20min walk from the apartment). I met Kristen and Alex at our designated location. I made have sent them a picture of my race attire in advance to streamline the location process. 20mins before the gun Kristen realized that Alex didn't have her timing chip. Alex sprinted home and back to retrieve it. You can't prove you did the run if you don't have a chip in her opinion and she was running the marathon after all.</div><div><br></div><div>The corral start was well organized as per usual with this race series. Our corral started 37mins after the elite runners. I skipped my first two walk breaks as they were both at a base of a hill. After that I played leapfrog with Alex until our races split around the 6 mile mark. She doesn't do 10:1s and I do, so it was pretty amusing passing each other for 30mins. </div><div><br></div><div>It was smoking hot by 845am when we were running along Seward Park. The man who was spraying his garden hose on mist may be my hero. There was also a grandfather and his granddaughter hosting a fake wedding for any intereated runners along the shore and providing a unique photo opportunity. </div><div><br></div><div>The tunnels were a blessing and a curse. They were strong uphill climbs where my GPS lost connection with the satellites. They were also a shaded and cool reprieve from the shadless I-90. I stopped after the second tunnel to help a girl and her father when she collapsed. I assume this was due to heat but cannot confirm as I started running again when the paramedics and sheriff took over. I lost about 10mins of time to this stop, but I couldn't in good conscious continue when she was in distress. </div><div><br></div><div>My finish time was 2'18. It's my slowest but I'm putting an astrix behind it when people ask due to the nature of my delay. </div><div><br></div><div>The best part... And you're going to be upset with my for taking so long to get to it... </div><div><br></div><div>My BF was waiting at the finish line. He pulled me aside while I tried to tell him about the collapsed girl. Got down on one knee and proposed. I don't know exactly what he said cause when he got down on one knee, opened the ring box, and said my name I just started crying. I'm sure it was something sweet and sincere. He had to prompt me with "I'm not hearing a yes, Darling" when I kept telling him I loved him and crying. </div><div><br></div><div>When he got up random bystanders clapped for us and offered up congratulations. It couldn't have been more perfect. He combined my two loves: him and running. The rings pretty nice too.</div><div><br></div><div>:D</div><div><br></div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-90198376757714353982013-06-20T17:00:00.001-07:002013-06-20T17:00:02.210-07:00Seattle Rock n' Roll Half Marathon in 2 SleepsOn Saturday morning I am running the Seattle Rock n' Roll Half Marathon. I am excited for it cause there is no pressure. I know it's not a course for me to PR on so I'm just going to try to enjoy the sights and sounds along the way. I am going to get to hang out pre-race with my friend who is running the Marathon. The race starts both the Marathon and Half together so we can share a corral and run the first mile together. It's a free for all after that as I run 10:1 and she does something more like a 40:2. If I can workout a place to put my medals and gear I'm going to try to meet her around the 22 mile marker to cheer her on. I have my fingers crossed for overcast skies, no rain, and minimal wind. Wish us luck!! The Princess registration opened today and it takes place on my 29th birthday! When completing that registration it gave me the opportunity to also register for the Tinkerbell in January as part of the Coast to Coast challenge. By registering for both on the same day I get a special pink coast to coast medal when I am at the Princess Half.<div><br></div><div>I am jumping out of my desk chair at work excited about these races! I am also unbelievably grateful that my BF is so supportive of my running habit and passion for travel. Next obstacle, make an awesome costume (possibly a different one for each race).</div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639158875485394159.post-15855272165001774752013-06-03T22:12:00.001-07:002013-06-03T22:12:31.600-07:00Crosstraining = Softball (Slo Pitch)I went to softball today! It was a slo pitch league. The rules about what constitute a strike are not the same as softball or baseball, which confused me at first. Overall, it was fun, but not a "workout" by my standard definition. I got on base twice and got two people out while I was playing infield. I played catcher too, but it wasn't as intense as the position is in standard softball. This is the first vacation I've been on in ages where I didn't feel like my running was negatively impacted by my break. It was a wonderful balance of relaxation, workouts, and tourist activities. <div><br></div><div>On Saturday morning the three of us got up early and went for a 6 mile run along Mission Bay. The setting was wonderfully Californian. Water on one side, outdoor park on the other. There was a TRX Training team working out on the beach too for extra inspiration. Every single one of those athletes looked fit and admirable. We followed the run with a drive through Pacific Beach, time by the pool, and maybe one too many bottles of red wine.</div><div><br></div><div>On Sunday we spent 5+ hours at the San Diego Zoo. We walked all of it and kept the unhealthy snacking to a minimum. The zoo was as amazing as I had expected it to be and a lot of goofy fun. </div><div><br></div><div>On Monday we got up at 7am and went to Miramer Lake for a 10 mile run. It was 63 degrees at 830am when we started. There was very little shade or wind. The loop is a windy 5 miles that we did in one direction and then repeated in the opposite direction. It was over 70 degrees by the time we finished (before 1015am). </div><div><br></div><div>The most important development of the weekend is BFs willingness to do a Half Marathon this fall. He has now done two 10 milers with me and is feeling pretty confident. I'm really excited to see him finish. </div><div><br></div><div>Side note: my SeaWheeze shorts arrived right as I was leaving for my flight on Friday. They're bright and fabulous. I almost wish the inside pattern (orcas and trees) was the outside but that's just me.</div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil4GHOOFys0rirN_MFHOCj9i_M7jy5rsZw5fiJwQ-yhnkkW4d0HcYRtAa98MCe94b4pnTa5AIawM_IOwiJPN2qtlTK3d1yrMCbzroFMUBz5fj9MwkprpIAyoBzi4q-qlD9pdBtg0IHkM3-/s640/blogger-image-1422630068.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil4GHOOFys0rirN_MFHOCj9i_M7jy5rsZw5fiJwQ-yhnkkW4d0HcYRtAa98MCe94b4pnTa5AIawM_IOwiJPN2qtlTK3d1yrMCbzroFMUBz5fj9MwkprpIAyoBzi4q-qlD9pdBtg0IHkM3-/s640/blogger-image-1422630068.jpg"></a></div>SeaBreezehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00486587826946757928noreply@blogger.com0
